Bali Shortlist

Thank you to all who were able to submit their passports and Next of Kin details for the upcoming Bali to Fremantle delivery. These details have now been submitted to the Fremantle Sailing Club for submission to the relevant authorities.

I will keep you all advised in the coming weeks, Thank you all again for the fantastic response. Best regards, Peter

Passport Deadline

Hi Crew

Just a reminder that passport details below need to be submitted by the 15th, just a few days away.  Even if you are unsure or perhaps as things do change its worth submitting the details below just in case !

Previous message follows:-

Its a few months off but for those interested in this delivery I need to have a crew list submitted in a couple of weeks. The information required needs to be sent to me ASAP for anyone who wishes to be considered for this trip

1. High quality Jpeg copy of the photo page of each individual crew’s passport.
2. Next of Kin – name and relationship to crew member
3. Next of Kin- home address, email address, landline phone, mobile number

The boat is competing in the Fremantle to Bali Race in May organised by the Fremantle Sailing Club.

The Indonesian Authorities and the Fremantle sailing club require a crew list well in advance (due in a couple of weeks time)

Without significant extra costs it is difficult to add any names to this required list at a later date so all possible crew for the race and delivery back need to be nominated early.

Details of the delivery of this boat back from Bali in 2013 can be found here:- http://crew.yachtdeliveries.com.au/index.php/2013/06/bali-to-fremantle/

I hope this answers all your questions

Regards, Peter

FAQ

Hi Peter,

I received your email concerning this delivery/race. Thank you for thinking of me.
Is this a delivery back from Bali to Fremantle after the race?
OR
Race crew that is required to sail back to Fremantle after winning the race to Bali?

Reply

Hi, yes this is for the delivery back. I think the race crew has been selected by the owner however someone could pull out so if the paperwork I requested is submitted it would make it easier to select last minute race crew from the delivery crew list. Cheers, Peter

29 52 S, 153 33 E, Around 9 Nm East of Nth Solitary Island, wind is again calm but forecast to come in strong from the North this afternoon. All is well.

Monday, 3 November 2014, 2230 Hrs

28 58 S, 153 40 E, South of Balina now, wind started to go east off Byron Bay a few hours ago so now under sail and the seas are starting to Calm a bit. I’m not sure if the sea state can affect your colour vision because the crew were starting to look a bit green! On the mend now but I think I will be dining on my own tonight. (Certainly won’t be as good as the Peking Duck the other night thanks to Gang and his wife)

0930 Hrs

Position Report and other info UTC +8 Hrs (Perth time)

Cut and paste the GPS location below into Google earth, you can place mark
This position and follow our Progress

Monday, 7 April 2014
Bunbury train Station

Sunday, 6 April 2014-04-07 0645 Hrs
Arrived Bunbury, updates later.

Saturday, 5 April 2014, 1400 Hrs
34 09 S, 114 6 E, Now just 90 Nm from Bunbury so current ETA is approximately
9 am Sunday.  Very calm and hot out here today so slowly motoring for the
final leg. All is well

Friday, 4 April 2014, 1100 Hrs
35 16 S, 117 32 E, 15 Nm due South of Albany. This must be the only place on
the coast where Telstra has no coverage compared to Optus giving a good strength.
We by-passed Albany as it does not appear that the possible (moderate / strong)
Northerly winds will affect us with our current ETA at the Cape. Probably only
around 240 Nm to go to Bunbury so currently looking at an arrival of Sunday at
the moment.

Thursday, 3 April 2014, 1300 Hrs
34 31 S, 119 41 E About half way from Esperance to Albany. Will probably make
a decision on a quick stop over in Albany based on updated forecasts and timing
issues once in internet range again. There is a Northerly wind predicted for
Friday evening so will be planning to reach Cape Leeuwin no earlier than Saturday
morning when the breese will die of based on yesterdays predictions. Updates when
in internet range.

Wednesday, 2 April 2014, 1200 Hrs
Leaving Esperance.  Forecast is looking great for a quick and hopefully non stop
trip through to Bunbury. Great to have a break and finally a hot shower. Thanks
again Duane for a very detailed weather forecast.

Monday, 31 March 2014, 2115 Hrs
33 51.9 S, 121 53.7 E Taylor St landing, Esperance
1600 Hrs
34 03 S, 122 26 E Around 30 Nm to Esperance now. Had a great rest at a calm
anchorage overnight at got underway again early this morning. All that’s now
missing is a big drink and shower late tonight.

Sunday, 30 March 2014, 1830 Hrs
34 04.87 S, 123 11.37 E, Anchored off “Goose Island “ around 70 Nm to Esperance,
buggered after beating into the wind all day. Will press on in the morning in the
lee of the coast. All well however just looking forward to cooking in a vertical
position and sleeping horizontally.

Saturday, 29 March 2014, 1300 Hrs
34 27 S, 125 08 E Still approximately 170 Nm to Esperance. We have the 20Kt
Northerly blowing since 0400 hrs as Duane updated us on. The forecast before
leaving is still remarkably accurate however no westerly was predicted from
my data so expecting this forecast to be quickly outdated.

Friday, 28 March 2014, 1200 Hrs
34 43 S, 128 19 E Thanks Duane for the weather update. It seems we may be in
for some westerlies on Saturday night. Unfortunately we wont be in Esperance
by then so may need to head for the coast and an anchorage instead if it ends
up  being too strong. Will probably update next when moored / anchored or close
to it on Sunday.

Thursday, 27 March 2014, 1230 Hrs
34 51 S, 130 46 E Almost half way across the Bight. Currently no wind so under
engine (as we have been most of this leg) Based on forecasts before leaving we
can expect the same until the weekend where it should start coming from the
North and a little stronger. This should help us conserve fuel till our next
landfall. All is well with everyone well rested. Update probably next on Saturday. (Thanks Marion for the info on Cape Catastrophie)
1200 Hrs
Leave Port Lincoln. Weather looks good for approximately one week and perhaps
longer. Next stop is perhaps Esperance depending on the weather as we approach,
its possible we could continue on if our supplies are holding up.
Please note that messages and position report will be via the Satellite phone so
updates will only be every 2 – 3 days

Sunday, 23 March 2014, 1730 Hrs
34 44.5 S, 135 52.5 E, Arrived Port Lincoln, one short night stopover hopefully.
All is well.

Saturday, 22 March 2014, 0800 Hrs
34 48 S, 138 29 E, All ready to leave, will top up fuel and be underway to
Port Lincoln in approximately one hour. Will be stopping to top up fuel and
water and any last minute supplies before leaving again, probably Monday
for the Bight. Yes to the previous crew “Its Business Time!

Cape Catastrophie

Thank for the info Marion

Cape Catastrophe in South Australia was named by Matthew Flinders. The area was notorious for shipwrecks in the nineteenth century, but the first recorded shipwreck occurred while Flinders was circumnavigating the Australian continent.  As well as the Investigator, Flinders had a small cutter which was used for landing parties. In February 1802, the cutter’s captain went to search for water with a crew of eight. None of them returned. Another man was sent to search for the cutter, but he returned alone, finding only evidence that the cutter had been wrecked on the rocks. Despite searching the coastline extensively, no survivors from the cutter were found: hence Flinders’ naming of the cape Cape Catastrophe.
