29 45 S, 153 25 E, Approximately 10 Nm North of Nth Solitary Island. Still making good progress with 20-30 Kt winds from the North. Thunderstorms to the north currently so a wet evening on its way. All well

0600 Hrs

28 20 S, 153 44 E Back in NSW, around 15 Nm North of Byron Bay. 33 52.4 S 151 14 E CYCA for a short stopover before continuing to Pittwater Saturday perhaps (weather Dependant) A fairly busy night last night with wind gusting to near 40 Kts seas 2-3 M and talk about HAIL! Fortunately all from the south. Some crew will be leaving today as the next short haul will not require many of us on Board so thank you very much for a great effort and trip. Welcome to the crew “A Team” guys!

Thursday, 18 April 2013, 1100 Hrs

35 48 S, 150 17 E Just off Batemans Bay. After freeing the weed yesterday we made a quick stop off at Eden for fuel then underway again by 1730 Hrs. Currently motor sailing as we wait for the wind and seas to pick up this afternoon / evening. Expecting a fast run to Sydney at this stage as the forecast for Friday is a gale warning so will probably wait overnight Friday in Sydney before the final leg to Pittwater.

Wednesday, 17 April 2013, 0830 Hrs

37 30 S, 149 59 E. Passed Gabo Island (5 Nm NE of) and into NSW. Around 30 Nm to Eden where we hope to stop briefly for fuel. Recently we have picked up some weed on the propeller so will call at the first sheltered cove to send a swimmer in to clear unless it frees itself before then. Light winds expected until early Thursday morning so progress again slow until we can free ourselves of the weed. Otherwise all well. Thank you Rob for your messages via SMS this morning and yesterday. Will be in touch shortly.

drimage002

Jack certainly had the Adrenalin going when he jumped into the cool water to free the weed from our Prop

Tuesday, 16 April 2013, 1100 Hrs

38 21 S 148 20 E Currently in the middle of the Bass Strait Oil Fields. Have been motoring overnight and a light breese through the days have made sailing possible. Expecting similar until Thursday when a strong Southerly should send us up the Coast. Have had some Freeze Dried Meals at night which have been surprisingly good! Not much else to report apart from the occasional Dolphin and Seal visits.

Tuesday, 11 June 2013, 1950 Hrs

32 04 S, 115 44.9 E, Fremantle, “Wasabi” is now back in her Berth. Thank you so much to the crew, Andy, Jack and Doug. Quite a mission especially the last leg which seemed to take forever into the wind. Great fun few weeks though.

1300 Hrs

31 27 S, 115 20 E, Currently 15 Nm off Two Rocks which is 40 Nm From Fremantle. Current ETA is still late tonight but looking forward to arriving whatever time. Its been a long wet and now hungry last leg as only planned food up until yesterday. Jack has promised a tasty Calamari dish for tonight after collecting a squid which sacrificed itself on our deck this morning.

Monday, 10 June 2013, 2200 hrs

29 45 S, 114 46 E Finally close enough to get a position report out and a weather update. Certainly has been shit out here only making less than 100 Nm in the right direction per day. Predictions are for Easterlies finally tomorrow which should help with the last 150 miles. Looks like late Tuesday or early Wednesday in Fremantle now.

Sunday, 9 June 2013, 1200 hrs

27 50 S, 113 00 E 40 Nm NW of the Abrolhos Islands. Slow progress with the winds being SE the last 2 days. Currently variable winds but nothing favourable really until Tuesday at this stage. Under 300 Nm to go was hoping we would be in by Monday but looking doubtful now.

Friday, 7 June 2013, 0900 Hrs

Yesterday got away from us as far as final preparations went so delayed our leaving to be fresh again for departure this morning. The weather forecasts have not changed much so hoping to get a few mile behind us today. May not have reception for a day or two but will update when able.

Thursday, 6 June 2013, 1330 Hrs

Leaving for the final leg to Fremantle today. Hopefully the wind although not ideal in direction should be light enough to make it without further stops.

“What the ?*@#”

Tuesday, 4 June 2013, 0930 Hrs

24 53.9 S, 113 39 E, Carnarvon Fishing boat Harbour. Had a wonderful sail in easterlies for the first 24 hrs from Exmouth before the wind swung from South and then SE slowing the last third of the trip considerably. Current forecast looks like a departure from here Thursday at the earliest. Will update as forecasts change.

Sunday, 2 June 2013 1230 Hrs

Leaving Exmouth shortly to head for either Carnarvon or even Geralton depending on the wind change timing expected for Tuesday morning. Will update again probably Monday depending on reception.

Friday, 31 May 2013, 2200 Hrs

21 57.4 S, 114 08.4 E, Exmouth Boat Harbour. Quite a bit of breeze blowing as we entered and tied up but managed to get secure before a quick Jaunt to the “Pot Shot” hotel for celebratory drinks. All is well!

1200 Hrs

21 32 S, 115 06 E Around 7 nm North of Onlsow. Still just under 60 nm to Exmouth where we can hopefully get ashore to re provision as quarantine have taken all our fresh food (what little was left) I had forgotten what a miserable leg this stretch of water usually is. In fact I don’t recall ever having favourable winds for these last 200 nm of the Pilbara Coast. Currently 20-25 knots SSW.

Thursday, 30 May 2013, 0845 Hrs

Leaving Dampier for Exmouth. All well after a big night at the pub. Good hospitality and helpful people at the Hampton Harbour sailing club also. Thank you Tony for your message, I’m not sure which I prefer the stifling Heat of the tropics or the freezing southern ocean!

Tuesday, 28 May 2013, 2145 hrs

20 40 S, 116 42 E Moored in Hampton Harbour, Dampier. Q Flag flying with customs and quarantine due at around 8-8.30 am for clearance. Well done guys!

wasimage004

Monday, 27 May 2013, 0930 Hrs

17 27 S, 116 20 E, Currently just under 200 Nm to Dampier. Hopefully we will be able to clear in tomorrow but as time of tides and customs working hour’s dependant we may not be on shore for Andy’s Birthday tomorrow. (Just in case anyone happens to be reading this) The last night finally gave us some consistent winds without pouring rain squalls giving some relief from the furnace below decks. All is well with crew finally adjusted to the odd movement and sleep patterns.

wasimage006

Saturday, 25 May 2013, 1000 Hrs

12 44 S, 115 51 E, Around 240 Nm from Bali with 460 Nm to Dampier. We motored in light headwinds for the first 24 hrs and subsequently have had SE 10-15 Kts winds giving a good angle for our course. The rain and oppressive heat is however wearing everyone down. Hopefully this will ease gradually as we slowly make our way south. Apart from this heat everything else is in order.

Thursday, 23 May 2013, 0630 hrs

Due to a few delays yesterday we put off leaving until now for a decent rest and full day of daylight. Next update in 2 days

Leaving CYCA for the final leg to Pittwater. Sorry for not updating our arrival last night into Sydney but showers, beers and a long sleep overtook other duties. All well thank you to the Crew Ian, Colin and Rachael well done in varied conditions. Thank you also to Sarah for her help today. ETA Pittwater approx 1600 Hrs

Thursday, 27 June 2013, 0830 Hrs

33 34 S, 151 05 E Approx 10 Nm East of Kiama with around 50 nm to Sydney Heads. Expecting to be in Sydney Harbour this evening before continuing on to Pittwater Friday Morning. All well with the Breese dying off but still a reasonable size underlying swell. Happy Birthday to Rachael on board today as well she has now demanded bacon and eggs for breakfast!

Wednesday, 26 June 2013, 0900 Hrs

36 58 S, 150 01 E Left Eden at 0730 this morning and now around 5 Nm off Merimmbula. Despite a sizeable underlying swell the seas here have dropped right off. Currently the wind is around 10- 15 Kts from the South with the forecast showing them dropping further as we progress up the coast.

Tuesday, 25 June 2013, 1800 Hrs

Still in Eden, back on a mooring expecting the wind to be dying off tomorrow so based on the next forecast early tomorrow we are planning an early start up the coast.

2130 Hrs

37 00 S, 150 21 E, Currently around 8 Nm South of Eden. Will be pulling in tonight to top up on fuel and wait for the forecast foul weather to blow through. Quite a frustrating day with very little breese again this morning despite the forecast 15-20 Kts making a slower than hoped for entrance to NSW waters. We expected to be able to make it as far north as Ulladulla but Murphy had his way again. The outlook now looks like Wednesday before we can head off again.

Saturday, 22 June 2013, 0900 Hrs

38 52 S, 147 02 E We passed Wilsons Prom late night / early morning and are well into the Strait approaching the oil fields. Still light winds hopefully going more SE today so we can sail a while. Regardless the plan is to be heading north on the NSW coast in 24 hours when stronger Easterlies are expected.

Friday, 21 June 2013, 1700 hrs

38 54 S, 145 43 E, 10 Nm West of Cape Liptrap. We left Port Phillip Heads at around 6am on the slack water. Spent several hours at anchor overnight. Conditions have been variable today and yesterday so under engine. Similar conditions are likely overnight however now expecting easterlies for much of the Bass Strait crossing. Tuesday, 23 July 2013, 1200 Hrs

37 26 S, 139 48 E, 16 Nm South of Robe SA All well, it started off quite slow waiting on the Southerly change yesterday but when it finally came in we picked up the pace Hopefully we will arrive early Wednesday morning at Wirrina Cove, Sapphires new home. My apologies but some parts of the website seem not to be working. Currently trying to rectify but my computer has suffered water damage so some of my keys and functions are not operating making this fix difficult at sea

Sunday, 21 July 2013, 1500 Hrs

39 02 S, 143 09 E Wind NNW Currently at 15-25 Kts. Its pretty ugly out here but the wind is expected to swing round to the South from as early as this evening just depending on where we are in relation to the low that has been troubling us for so long. Did I mention how ff ffff ff cold it is here?

0900 Hrs

Leaving Apollo Bay

Saturday, 20 July 2013, 1300 Hrs

Planning to leave Apollo Bay this afternoon. Freezing here with a slightly sketchy forecast for this area. Watching the weather observations to be sure the nearby low moves in the direction predicted. All being well the outlook is for only moderate strength winds in a reasonable direction

Fuel Drained from the fuel separator / filter after just 11 hrs of running after filter change

Tuesday, 16 July 2013, 0930 Hrs

39 08 S, 145 58 E, Finally passed Wilsons Promontory by around 20 Nm. Approx 24 hrs away from Apollo Bay or 40 hrs from Portland. Depending on the wind will try to get as far as safe before the next round of strong winds or before running the fuel too low as will need to check the condition of the remaining fuel. All is well, currently under engine again as winds are very light from the NW

Monday, 15 July 2013, 1500 Hrs

38 42 S, 147 17 E, 25 Nm East of Port Albert, A slow night as when it came to charging the batteries the engine would not start. After hand steering in light winds all night we commenced to change fuel filters at first light. Unfortunately after sitting for some time un-used the fuel tanks have become fouled so the primary filter was blocked. Fortunately there was not much water in the contamination so several hours later both filters have been changed and we are under way again.

sapimage006

Sunday, 14 July 2013, 1000 Hrs

37 46 S, 149 36 E, Approx 25 Nm past Gabo Island and into Bass Strait. Wind NE as predicted, will hopefully give us a good run to Wilsons Promontory before we start getting some westerlies. All is well, Amy cooked a Japanese Curry last night the first I have had on board, very nice and well done. Next update will be in a little over 24 hrs as reception will be doubtful until then

Saturday, 13 July 2013, 2000 Hrs

35 38 S, 150 10 E, Currently 20 Nm NE of Merrimbula NSW. Still under engine but the promise of NE winds for Sunday to push us a fair way across to Wilsons Prom. Unsure of exactly how far we will be before they start swinging more to the West on Monday but hopefully will make good use of what comes along. All well. Next update in the morning before possibly loosing regular internet tomorrow evening.

Wednesday, 14 August 2013, 1200 Hrs

32 45 S, 153 13 E, Currently off Port Stephens so a little over 85 Nm to go. Currently a light 8 kt NW breese that will hopefully build a little more so that we are finally able to shut down the noise of the engine. Current ETA is for very early Thursday morning before winds go further to the SW

30 22 S, 153 10 E, Left Coffs Harbour an hour or so ago. Lovely weather with what are now variable winds. 30 18.2 S, 153 08.8 E, Coffs Harbour Marina. Great run and beautiful weather here in Coffs currently. Seems a shame to pull in as the NW winds had kicked in nicely. Watching the observations we can see over 40 Kts hit Sydney a few hours ago so thought it prudent to stop here for hopefully no more that 15 ish hours when the front has moved through.
