Tuesday, 14 July 2026, 1300 Hrs
33 40 S, 152 20 E, Currently 7 Nm NE of Port Stephens. Have had a good run until, as expected, the wind came in from the WSW at around 20 Kts picking up the seas and giving us a bumpy ride. The weather will deteriorate further tonight and all through till Friday so will push on slowly to Pittwater and arriving hopefully early Wednesday morning. Will probably moor in the Basin and continue to the RPAYC in the morning.

Leaving Coffs Marina. Had the gas fitters on board briefly to rectify a leaky gas connection this morning. A fuel top up and now motor sailing into light variable winds. Expecting some West to SW winds overnight and Tuesday with a Southerly approaching Wednesday morning. Hoping to make a reasonable distance by then.

29 30 S, 153 27 E, Around 10 Nm North of Yamba. The wind has turned more weatwerly this morning after being predominantly North overnight. We will be arriving at Coffs this evening as we we have found a leak in the gas installation which we will address in the morning before continuing on further.

Berthed at Keppel Bay Marina (Rosslyn Bay) A bit bumpy on the way across and where are the tropics after passing Cape Capricorn? We have booked a tradesman for tomorrow to do a repair on the hydraulic furling system due to a leaky gauge.

32 32 S, 152 31 E, We are currently 10 Nm South of Sugarloaf Pt (Seal Rocks) Finally found the current which was running fast (3 + Kts) from Crowdy Head to Tacking Pt. Increased the average speed up 5.5 Kts so with the current forecast we should be at Sydney Heads around 7 Am Tomorrow. If so we will make the first Spit Bridge opening at 8 am before mooring at D’Albora marina shortly after. All well on board.
Wednesday, 1 April 2026, 0930 Hrs
30 14 S, 153 20 E, Thats 4 Nm SE of South Solitary Island,and puts us around 10 Nm NE of Coffs Harbour. Posting a little earlier today as we may be out of phone range until this evening as we are staying wide in the hope to find the East Aus current that was so strong last week. So far haven’t found any current yet. Currently its a light Southerly but as the afternoon goes on it should go a bit E to NE this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon to speed us up a bit. ETA is now Friday hopefully before a Southerly kicks in Friday lunchtime. Fingers crossed. Update again tomorrow.

28 59 S, 153 36 E, 10Nm NE of Evans Head. Slow and bump;y overnight but at least the wind has dropped to 15 Kts and just now turned a little more east. Only made around 3.5 Kts over the ground overnight but hopefully will now get some current to assist from here on. Unfortunately the Autopilot doesn’t want to play “No Pilot Computer” which is likely a loose or wet connection. (miserable rain) Will investigate further when able but difficult whilst hand steering and resting between shifts. Update again tomorrow.

27 58 S, 153 30 E, Slow going as expected, motoring slowly into the SE 20 Kt winds and seas. Marking time basically until the wind eases overnight and hopefully pick up some current closer to Byron.

Still waiting unfortunately. The seas should drop to around 2.5 m from Monday around 1400 hrs so hope to be out of the seaway by then. Winds are consistently SE 15-20 kts for the next 3 or 4 days but will lighten and be more easterly the further past Byron that we can get. Anyway pre-cooking a few meals to get us through the first 2 probably uncomfortable days. Will update on departure tomorrow.

Arrived at Southport Yacht Club, all went well through the channels timing the tides for the shallows. On weather watch now as we wait for the seas and winds to move off the NSW coast.

Underway from East Coast Marina. Heading to Southport to let the first strong wind warning to blow through before hopefully a short hop down the coast to let a Southerly and big swell roll through Saturday night to Monday morning.

Preparing / provisioning today with a plan to move closer to Southport on the tides tomorrow. Will be keeping a close eye on the weather as currently from Friday night through to Sunday there’s a nasty low off the NSW coast. We will need to wait near or at Southport or Byron Bay or even further south would be better before continuing on where the forecast seems to be fine after that.

Sunday, 22 March 2026, 1300 Hrs
29 15 S, 153 28 E, 7 Nm South of Evans Head. A bit better on speed now after Passing Smokey Cape last night. Back up to expected speeds of around 6 kts plus which have improved the average somewhat. The East Aust Current was running at easily 2-3.5 Kts at times. Anyway all is well with an ETA of Monday Morning now in Southport. Getting there!

31 20 S, 153 01 E, Around 8 Nm North of Tacking Point. Although the average speed over ground is just under 5 Kts since leaving the current has been very strong against us particularly last night till now. Hopefully that current will ease the further north we get from here. The light winds have built to around 15 Kts from the South and a beautiful day on this part of the coast. All going fine as we enjoy the pleasant conditions today

32 42 S, 152 12 E, Just outside the heads of Port Stephens about to head north. We left just after 1100 Hrs after a few last minute preparations. Light winds expected for the first day or so so looks like a bit of motoring initially to commence with. All is well will update at lease daily.
By the way welcome back aboard Katherine, since the trip to Perth on “Solur” almost 10 years to the day!

20 20 S, 148 52 E, Currently abeam of Long Island. Almost there around 15 Nm to go should have us berthed around 1500 Hrs at berth C34, Just up the Path from Sorrento’s, “happy hour” here we come. Will update after arrival

Leaving the fuel dock at Yepoon. We anchored for around 3 hrs early this morning off Great Keppel Island to wait for the fuel dock in Roslyn Bay to open. Unfortunately some Northerlies are predicted from this evening through to Saturday which will slow our progress from here. Depending on the course we are able to steer its likely we will again be out of internet range so will update our position via the Sat phone again for the next day or so. All is well

23 27 S, 152 14 E, 15 Nm East of Heron island. Almost half way now to Airlie. We have mainly been motorsailing overnight as the wind although from the East has been light. It looks like the same until Thursday when it may turn to the north so we are heading to Yepoon for a quick top up on fuel before underway again Tomorrow. Will update whilst in range tomorrow (posted via Sat phone)

25 S, 153 E, Approx half way up the Fraser Island coast sailing in light 10 Kt easterlies. Perfect sailing yesterday with S-SE winds that built through the day until the early evening when it was time to put the engine on unikl now. An average of 5.5 Kts. All is well onboard. Will probable be out of regular phone and internet connections for a few days so daily satelite positions around lunchtime for this period.
