Wednesday, 22 January 2025, 1200 Hrs

41 52 S, 148 18 E, Safely moored in Waubs Bay

0900 Hrs

41 55 S, 148 22 E, Off Cape Lodi, which is only about 15 Nm closer to our destination since midnight. Extremely slow and frustrating. Doing an early report as I expect to be hand steering for several hours. Its going to take all day but the first shelter is Wine Glass bay so will need to anchor there until this crappy 25-30 Kt southerly blows through. Will delay any ETA forecasts for now as Thursday is even looking optimistic at the Moment. Will update when able.

Tuesday, 21 January 2025, 1430 Hrs

41 03 S, 148 42 E, We are now 20 Nm NE of St Helens so should be reception for several hours. Updated forecast shows a Southerly in our area around midnight, hope to be passing Schouten Island by then and heading for the Denison canal (still 110 Nm away) Hope to be able to make a passage through the canal before high tide tomorrow which is 5pm as the Canal is only opened between 9-5 Pm. Another 40 Nm to Hobart from then looks like an ETA currently of Thursday morning all going well. Update again tomorrow as timing becomes clearer.

1200 Hrs

40 52 S, 148 47 E, Just passing Banks Strait around 20 Nm NE of Edystone Point. A little slower yesterday as the wind died off and went further to the North. Only 165 Nm or so to go which gives an ETA of late tomorrow however I feel with the forecast Southerly coming this will push it well into Thursday now.

Monday, 20 January 2025, 1200 Hrs

39 09 S, 149 35 E, Around 70 Nm NE of Flinders Island. Had a great run overnight averaging around 6 Kts in good conditions and full sail.

Note a tech issue stoped publishing this post at the time. Hope to resolve on Tuesday.

Sunday, 19 January 2025, 1800 Hrs

37 37 S, 149 59 E, Bass Strait here we are. 5 Nm SE of Gabo Island nice light easterly wind so motor sailing along nicely. Hope to have a quick enough passage and be ahead of some forecast southerlies on Wednesday. Will be updating around lunchtime daily via the Sat phn for the next few days. Udpates on the Home Page

10.30 hrs
Tassie here we go.

Saturday, 18 January 2025

All set to go. Re provisioned, watered, Cleaned and a few repairs.
Planning an early ish start in the morning and will update when underway and possibly again before we loose reception for a few days.

Friday, 17 January 2025

Well finally fixed a head blockage problem which led to another repair. Anyway All good now.
Next win I hope was an improved weather forecast. Finger’s crossed but should be a weather window from Sunday morning.
Third bit of good news is happy our at the Great Southern . Beer o’clock

Wednesday, 15 January 2025, 1200 Hrs

Arrived Eden, straight onto a few jops to sort out. Weather looks like we have a few days to do them though.
Will update better over the next day or two.
All good on board.

Tuesday, 14 January 2025, 1200 Hrs

35 28 S, 150 37 E, Currently 10 Nm SE of Ulladulla. Making reasonable progress in light winds. The wind is expecting to build and with the forecast looking strong from Wednesday I will review weather to stop at Bemagui tonight of straight to Eden to anchor for a few days. Will update this evening if we stop or tomorrow morning in Eden. All is fine.

Monday, 13 January 2025,1200 Hrs

Monday, 6 January 2025, 0400 Hrs

Arrived at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. Thank you very much Dinah and of course Shore Crew Suzie. Will try to post more photos in the coming days.

Sunday, 5 January 2025, 1200 Hrs

42 26 S 148 22 E, Just 5 Nm to the South of Schoutin Island on Tasmanian lower east coast. Looking good to beat tomorrows southerly up the Derwent for a morning arrival in Hobart. Will unfortunately miss seeing the stunning coast from Tasman Island and across storm Bay. Will update again as we approach Hobart.

Saturday, 4 January 2025, 1200 Hrs

39 54 S, 147 42 E, 5 Nm off the Western tip of Flinders Island. Its hard to tell with the slight extra distance we are taking on the inside, but it looks like we may make the Banks Strait exit into the Tasman with the assistance of the tide. The wind from the NE is starting to drop and the water is now comfortably smooth. Had another great 24 hr run downwind with an average just over 7 Kts speed.

Tomorrow morning should see a light but short lived Southerly on the Upper East Coast which hopefully wont see us slow too much to get across storm Bay before the next South winds on Monday morning. All is well.

This is sunset, 1700 rpm and doing 10.3 KTS. Sometimes you gotta love the 🌊 tide

Friday, 3 January 2025, 1200 Hrs

37 39 S, 149 52 E, Good bye Gabo Island, around 6 Nm to the North of us. Currently a 15kt NE wind which is expected to build a little but currently perfect sea and wind conditions to put some miles behind us. Our course is for the Northern tip of Flinders Island and will choose a course to Hobart based on updated forecasts. All is well update tomorrow.

0545 Hrs

Leaving Eden. Weather has cleared from a Southerly to variable with a NE expected to build over the next day or so. There is a good chance we will keep to the West of Flinders Island for a calmer sea state but will be dependant on the weather updates.

Note most reports may be via the sat phone for the next few days so you may need to refresh to the sites “Home Page”

Wednesday, 1 January 2025 1330 Hrs

Anchored in Eden

1200 Hrs

36 47 S, 150 05 E Approaching Merimbula and around 20 Nm to Eden where we expect to anchor for around 24 hrs. Will update at anchor

0900 Hrs

Engine on, fresh coffee in hand off we go.

Tuesday, 31 December 2024 1530 Hrs

Burmagui
Parked and fuel topped up. Will head off in the morning for Eden then another short rest whilst the wind shifts.
Not sure we will be awake at midnight so happy new year to all now.

1300 Hrs

36 15 S, 150 11 E, 2nm to the West of Montague Island. Have had a great run overnight but now slowed by S-SE winds and a few bumps. Current forecasts are showing a good run across Bass Strait from Thursday afternoon. We are planning to stop in Bermagui tonight and then move on to anchor in Eden whilst a southerly blows through tomorrow. Will update when parked.

Tied up along the service Jetty at the RPAYC! Thank you Graham and to Dinah as well our shore contact person. Thanl you for keeping a watchfull eye over us.

Monday, 28 October 2024, 2200 Hrs

Arrived and moored in “Coasters Retreat” Pittwater. Looking forward to a good sleep before moving on to the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club

0630 Hrs

32 34 S, 152 35 E, 13 Nm East of Broughton Island. An early update as reception may drop out over the next few hours. We are staying wide on the coast hoping to continue getting a good assist with the East Coast Current. Made great progress yesterday averaging 6.85 Kts. Later this afternoon a Southerly is forecast so hopefully a wide course will allow a good angle to proceed to Pittwater without needing to shelter.

Its been an interesting morning with a Melbourne vessel “All or Nothing” 12 Nm ahead putting out a PAN PAN after apparently hitting one of the Seal Rocks. Fortunately some other vessels closer by also responded and are now escorting the Bavaria 42 into Nelson Bay. They must be worn out by now as the four on board are continuously bailing whilst the slowly crawl into port.

All is well on board here and will update closer to our destination as we await the Southerly change.

Sunday, 27 October 2024, 1030 Hrs

Fuel topped up and underway again from Coffs. A little concerned about supplies I directed Graham to the Fish Co-op and it looks like fresh prawns for lunch! Update again tomorrow.

South Solitary Island

0600 Hrs

30 04 S, 153 22 E, % Nm North of South Solitary Island. We have been motoring slowly since Byron as the breeze has stayed from the South making our average only 4.3 Kts. We will be topping up fuel in Coffs Harbour and underway again ASAP after that to take advantage of a Northerly expected until sunset. All is well.

Saturday, 26 October 2024, 0900 Hrs

Leaving Byron Bay. Looking like motoring for 24 Hrs to Coffs before the next forecast Northerly arrives. We plan to top up fuel as the remainder of the journey shows winds moving all around the compass but nothing too strong at this stage. Update again soon.

October 24. 2024, 2100 Hrs

Anchored in Byron Bay, The Southerly has just arrived as we lowered the anchor. Update tomorrow on leaving times after weather updates and observations. All going well.

1230 hrs

Left Southport yacht club and now heading south to anchor at Byron for a southerly to blow though Thursday.

Sunday, 13 August 2023, 0900 Hrs

32 45 S, 152 13 E, Off Port Stephens entrance. A Light (still) westerly so motor sailing in the right direction. We have just topped up the fuel tank and have sufficient to avoid putting in to Nelson bay so are expecting an early morning arrival at the CYCA Sydney tomorrow. Will update after arrival. Shame it looks like the fine warm weather has finally left us.

Saturday, 12 August 2023, 0900 Hrs

31 02 S, 153 08 E, Currently off Kempsey motor sailing in light variable winds. Stopped off to briefly fill the fuel tank last night in Coffs, Nothing else to report except its very pleasant weather despite the low wind and hence boat speed. All’s well.

Friday, 11 August 2023, 0830 Hrs

29 23 S, 153 35 E, Currently 10 Nm East of Yamba and making good progress under engine only. The wind started off in the NE after leaving Southport and has gradually backed around to the SW and is expected to continue to back further through the day through to the SE at only 10 Kts. This means we will continue to be motoring for the next 24 hrs so are planning a quick stop in Coffs Harbour to top up fuel and continue underway this evening. All is well on board.

Thursday, 10 August 2023, 1715 Hrs

Leaving Southport Yacht Club slightly delayed whilst attaching the Autopilot to the helm so the daylight is fading but at least everything is in order. Update again in the morning.

Passport Deadline

Hi Crew

Just a reminder that passport details below need to be submitted by the 15th, just a few days away.  Even if you are unsure or perhaps as things do change its worth submitting the details below just in case !

Previous message follows:-

Its a few months off but for those interested in this delivery I need to have a crew list submitted in a couple of weeks. The information required needs to be sent to me ASAP for anyone who wishes to be considered for this trip

1. High quality Jpeg copy of the photo page of each individual crew’s passport.
2. Next of Kin – name and relationship to crew member
3. Next of Kin- home address, email address, landline phone, mobile number

The boat is competing in the Fremantle to Bali Race in May organised by the Fremantle Sailing Club.

The Indonesian Authorities and the Fremantle sailing club require a crew list well in advance (due in a couple of weeks time)

Without significant extra costs it is difficult to add any names to this required list at a later date so all possible crew for the race and delivery back need to be nominated early.

Details of the delivery of this boat back from Bali in 2013 can be found here:- http://crew.yachtdeliveries.com.au/index.php/2013/06/bali-to-fremantle/

I hope this answers all your questions

Regards, Peter

FAQ

Hi Peter,

I received your email concerning this delivery/race. Thank you for thinking of me.
Is this a delivery back from Bali to Fremantle after the race?
OR
Race crew that is required to sail back to Fremantle after winning the race to Bali?

Reply

Hi, yes this is for the delivery back. I think the race crew has been selected by the owner however someone could pull out so if the paperwork I requested is submitted it would make it easier to select last minute race crew from the delivery crew list. Cheers, Peter

Bali Shortlist

Thank you to all who were able to submit their passports and Next of Kin details for the upcoming Bali to Fremantle delivery. These details have now been submitted to the Fremantle Sailing Club for submission to the relevant authorities.

I will keep you all advised in the coming weeks, Thank you all again for the fantastic response. Best regards, Peter
