32 18 S, 152 35 E. 9 Nm North of Seal Rocks. Currently wind is SW at 15 Kts and under engine for the time being. Had a fantastic run with the wind and current yesterday however as forecast the wind went to the South late in the evening and up to 25 kts slowing progress considerably. Spent the night marking time slowly motoring south whilst it blew through so expecting reasonable conditions today although close hauled. Will probably end up a bit offshore today whilst we take advantage of the eased conditions. The wind may pick up again tonight to slow our progress but at this stage expecting to arrive in Sydney some time Wednesday.

30 29 S, 153 20 E, 15 Nm off the coast near Bellingen. Under sail and making over 8 kts with the current assisting, nice and sunny as well after several showers overnight. Hopefully this weather will stay in (NW winds 15 Kts) for as long as possible. All is well as you have read.

25 35 S, 153 16 E, Approaching the South end of Fraser Island. The Northerly started to arrive yesterday afternoon and we gradually picked up pace. With a current assisting us we are making great progress. Unfortunately the forecast is for the wind to go SW this evening before going Southerly for Friday.We should however reach Mooloolaba late tonight to let it blow on through before calming down for Saturday. Updates should be a bit more frequent from now.

23 10 S, 151 18 E, 15 Nm North of Cape Capricorn, about to leave the tropics. The website is partially restored hopefully all will function properly soon. Again I expect to be out of phone and internet range this afternoon for a further 24 hours as we take advantage of Northerly winds this afternoon and head out wide of Fraser Island.

Leaving Yeppoon. Showered, well rested and “Proper” coffee (at least for some, Cate drank mine so gets the night shift from now) Only 220 Nm to go, we will be taking the wider channel so do not expect reception from this afternoon until we almost reach Hamilton Island on probably Tuesday evening.

23 27 S, 151 17 E, We are in the Tropics! Just passing Cape Capricorn south of Yeppoon. Not far from Roslyn Bay where we need a brief stop over to top up a few litres of fuel etc before heading off again Sunday. Have had a great run but won’t be able to avoid some Northerly winds next week. Should not be too strong hopefully but a big change from the Southerlies to date.

24 48 S, 153 23 E Approaching the top end of Fraser Island. Still with some reception so another quick update. Currently the wind is 15 Kts from the South and making good progress. Should this continue it is likely we will have enough fuel, water and ice to continue perhaps as far as Yepoon. Should this be the case it could be another 24 Hrs before the next update so please no search and rescue. Contact can be made through the Satelite phone, a link can be found on this website.

26 36 S, 153 22 E 14 Nm East of Mooloolaba. Half way to Hamilton Island. Just back in reception again after passing Morton Island. The strong winds that were predicted overnight did not eventuate although we had some moderate speeds this morning we are again under engine in variable conditions. There is wind expected again this evening however the coming days look light but pleasant. Expecting to go through to Bundaberg (Burnett heads) to top up on fuel and provisions. Will probably update off Fraser island tomorrow but reception will be limited over the next 2 days.

28 46 S, 153 37 E, 8 Nm South of Cape Byron. Currently with variable winds, expecting them to pick up again tonight from the West to South West to pick our speed up again. Called in briefly to Coffs Harbour last night at midnight to grab a couple of bags of ice as the fridge hasn’t been coping so well for some reason. Sorry for the late update on position Today as time seemed to slip away for some reason. All well and still making good progress despite the hole in the wind we seem to have found.

31 36 S, 152 57 E, South of Tacking Point (6 Nm) Currently 15Kts of wind from the SW. Had up to 30 Kts overnight which gave us a great run up from Sydney making good time. All well and enjoying the trip so far. Quite pleasant with just a small headsail and the seas did not get up too much through the night

43 07 S, 147 39 E, 9 Nm SE of the “Iron Pot” Almost there ETA at Prince of Wales Bay Marina is approximately 1600 Hrs. Will update time of arrival after the hangover (yet to be installed) has passed. Thank you to the crew, Katrina, Nigel and Clancy well done we managed to dodge a bullet through Bass Strait. Motor sailed the whole way but there was no time to hang around at this time of year.

41 13 S, 148 33 E, Abeam of St Helens Tasmania (10 Nm) Bass Strait is now behind us and back into telephone range. Weather is still looking good for us in our location but closing in around the rest of the strait and South NSW going well but a bit early to start giving any ETA’s

39 24 S, 149 17 E, Around 60 Nm NE of Flinders Island which is approximately half way across Bass Strait. A cool night last night again but lovely sunny day and making good progress. Light NW wind which will build overnight so looking forward to being across and off Northern Tasmania tomorrow.
It seems there were a few call attempts on the Sat phone this morning, unfortunately the steel hull made reception poor so will have the phone on deck through daylight hours.PS Damn Cane toads!

Forecast is for Northerlies the next few days so after 2 weeks finally the weather in this area is looking favourable for our direction. May or may not post a position tomorrow, if so it will be via Sat phone so you will need to look for the text file as linked above. All well on board looking forward to “State of Origin” tonight, hopefully will be able to stream it live somehow. Go the Blues!

Hi Crew

The next trip is from Sydney to Hobart to be commenced approximately the 2nd July 2015. This trip is probably 5 sailing days but will need to allow 10 Days in order to assure we undertake the whole passage in good weather conditions.

Most positions are unpaid and crew from the most previous delivery have first option and hence may get their Airfares paid. Otherwise all on board provisions are covered by the owner. Your cost will be for food / drinks whilst ashore and not under-way.

Bali to Fremantle May 30- June 19, 2015

Hi Crew

Its a few months off but for those interested in this delivery I need to have a crew list submitted in a couple of weeks. The information required needs to be sent to me ASAP for anyone who wishes to be considered for this trip

1. High quality Jpeg copy of the photo page of each individual crew’s passport.
2. Next of Kin – name and relationship to crew member
3. Next of Kin- home address, email address, landline phone, mobile number

The boat is competing in the Fremantle to Bali Race in May organised by the Fremantle Sailing Club.

The Indonesian Authorities and the Fremantle sailing club require a crew list well in advance (due in a couple of weeks time)

Without significant extra costs it is difficult to add any names to this required list at a later date so all possible crew for the race and delivery back need to be nominated early.

31 00 S, 115 05 E, Abeam of Lancelin (20 Nm) only just over 70 Nm to Fremantle. Current ETA is late tonight so expecting a last few hours under motor. The west coast again has at times been challenging, Southerlies to start with, uncomfortable and bumpy in shark bay, a washing machine off steep point but surprisingly good easterly winds for the last few days. Did I mention those F*#%&ng Cray Fishermans Pots?

28 18 S, 113 57 E, Midway between Port Gregory and the Wallaby Island group. Good to have a reasonable wind direction and speed as we make our way towards Fremantle. Currently in internet range for a short while which is fortunate as my Satellite phone charger has been damaged so will only be turning the phone on briefly now and then to check for messages. ETA will hopefully be before early Friday as more southerly winds are forecast for then.

25 53 S, 113 15 E, At the entrance to Denim Channel. Unfortunately didn’t check the oil on board for this trip so when about to top it up have realised there isn’t any! Oh well the ACRM Base (sea Rescue Denim) have found a friend who is currently underway to meet us here and save our butts! Nice people to assist so a donation will be in order. Otherwise all is well after a very bumpy night, wind has settle right down now so hope that tomorrow will see us making good headway.

Leaving Carnarvon. Water leak repaired hopefully. The hot water system was leaking the water so have now bypassed it and all seems OK. No hot water for the rest of the trip but that’s only minor for the next few days. Wind will be 20 Kts on the nose for the next 2 days before becoming favourable for the rest of the trip. Expecting it will be a bit bumpy once we leave shark bay but looking forward to better conditions from Tuesday.

34 50 S, 119 03 E. Around 60 Nm NE of Albany currently. Winds SE at 15 ish Kts All well making around 6.5 Kts of speed. Wind may ease a bit today but for now we are enjoying the sail in good conditions, a little chilli and what’s this with the sun rising at a bit after 3am?

34 13 S, 120 56 E, We left Esperance at 0800 hrs (Shhhh don’t tell the weather
man as he worked hard to give us the weather for yesterday and overnight) anyway
we elected to go to Esperance for fuel as it seemed it would be quicker than
calling at Albany. Unfortunately the Bandy Creek entrance seemed shallower than
the charts said so we turned away without fuel. May have enough to get through
to Fremantle but are carefully monitoring usage in the meantime. Sorry Duane
we are about 100 miles east of where we should be

Leaving “Middle Island” Anchorage. A good rest, cooked breakfast and a few minor
repairs so we are off again. Expecting to pass by Esperance and head back on
course for Albany and beyond. What a difference sunshine and calm seas can make.

34 29 S, 124 09 E, Wind SW 20-30 Kts, making only 4Kts under engine, very bumpy
confused sea so about to alter course for the shelter of some islands around
50 Nm away.
Monday, 1 December 2014, 1930 Hrs
34 22 S, 125 15 E, We have a  little bit on! Winds East at 30-45 Kts. This front
started from the south but quickly blew from the East again which surprised us
and our weatherman. At least we made good headway for around 4 hrs before the
wind died off for an hour or two to settle back from the SW at 30 Kts plus again.
All fine after good crew work to reduce the sails and get the boat back under
control. I guess we can watch the second half of “The Hobbit” another time

34 29 S, 126 21 E, Just under 750 Nm to go now with 1550 Nm behind us. Current
conditions are Easterly at 20-25 Kts clear skies but have had a few thunderstorms
rolling through. Hoping to have regular internet again tomorrow so should be the
last satellite update. Will be adjusting another hour on the clocks today so
a 2 hour happy hour!

34 31 S, 129 29 E, Approx 190 Nm south of Eucla so approaching the WA – SA Border,
will persist with Brisbane time so can be the only ones in WA on double daylight
savings time. Currently we have 15 Kts Westerly winds so have been under motor
since around 1600 Hrs yesterday. Maximum wind was only a little over 20 Kts overnight
from the west so slightly bumpy but making good progress. Expecting the wind to
drop a bit further before Backing around to the South then easterly again. All well
on board.

34 45 S, 134 05 E, 50 Nm West of Coffin Bay, amazed to have some reception so an early position report for today. Wind currently East at 15 kts, our course still a bit North of what we want but gradually coming around to the NE. Next update Sunday hopefully should the Sat phn continue to connect.

35 21 S, 135 01 E, 40 Nm SW of Cape Catastrophe, currently we have a brief internet connection so am doing our last update on this page for several days. Satellite updates will be most days when able at around midday our time. All is well with weather as predicted by Duane. We are making good progress so are about to start a more westerly course now that we have almost made 35 degree south.

36 07 S, 135 55 E, West of Kangaroo Island on a NW course to get above 35 Degree South before turning more to our Rhumb line. For our weatherman Duane, currently we have had SE winds at 20 Kts since around 4am, prior to that it was slightly more SSE so conditions are pretty much as forecast. 37 42 S, 139 36 E, Currently around 25 Nm abeam of Beachport, under engine as the wind dropped out with sunrise. Will be heading towards the western end of Kangaroo Island before taking a more Westerly course. Still no luck with getting windows 7 to talk to the Satellite phone but hopefully getting closer. If unable to then will not be updating our position via the “Text File” page but will report a position now and then to our shore contacts.

Leaving Portland, underway again, currently trying to sort out connection issues with the satellite phone, can receive calls and sms however there may be an issue with uploading our position on the web if we cannot sort this out prior to leaving the coast. Weather is looking fine for the next few days at least. May not call in to Port Lincoln  should the forecasts stay favourable will update later today.

38 21 S, 141 37 E, Portland Marina, Sailed along the great ocean road and past the 12 Apostles again, hopefully next time will see it by road as the Apostles are hard to pick out with the Cliffs behind. We had a delayed our arrival in Portland due to a lobster Pot wrapped on the Prop, fortunately not too bad as we managed to free it without Phil having to take a swim!! (he was keen to get his photo up again) Apart from the drama we managed to avoid the strong winds around Wilsons Prom and here off Portland by good timing.

38 59 S, 144 32 E, Due South of Geelong and around 40 Nm to Cape Ottway. Making good progress whilst its still calm, West to South West winds are expected to reurn this afternoon which will slow progress a bit but still hope to be in Portland for Mid Sunday. A few Dolphins overnight helped keep us alert. This Victorian State can be a bit cold at times even in late November, Brrrrr.

39 02 S, 146 28 E, Anchored in refuge Cove until Friday evening when the wind around the promontory starts to abate again. A light wind day with a little sailing, swarmed by flies when the wind dropped out in the middle of the day, later the headsail furler decided to pack it in which will probably require a marine electrician at our next port. Wednesday, 19 November 2014, 0800 Hrs
35 51 S, 150 16 E East of Broulee Island (4Nm) Phil grabs another opportunity to
get on the camera. A washer fell to the deck yesterday so early first light we
pulled into anchorage at Batemans Bay to investigate. Nothing that a bit of Gaffa
tape could not temporarily fix so we are again underway. A little bit bumpy again
since leaving however a Northerly is forecast for the next 2 days so expecting to
get as far as Wilsons Promontory before any Westerlies arrive. All is well.

20 15.8 S, 148 42.7 E Airlie Beach at Able Point Marina. Thank you David and Karl, a great trip despite the rain. All is fine.

20 34 S, 149 04 E, Just 40 Nm from Airlie beach now. ETA around 1600 Hrs. Although the wind is behind us, as it has been the entire trip, we now have a reefed mainsail up so may need to sail some angles downwind but its good to not have an engine running and to finally see the mainsail. All well but looking forward to a shower after arrival.

23 18 S, 150 58 E Approaching Great Keppel Island. This will probably be the
last update until perhaps Wednesday as we are not expecting phone reception
for 24 – 36 hrs. All is well apart from still having a bumpy sea.

23 42 S, 151 31 E Currently 15 Nm NW of Gladstone. Making reasonable progress
but this consistent rain really can be depressing. We are starting to get some
shelter from the swell now as the reef is abeam of us so at least the seas
should start to calm again for the next few days.

25 18 S, 153 00 E At the North end of the Great Sandy Straits. Up early this
morning for a full breakfast before getting underway at about 0930 hrs for
the passage through the channels. All negotiated with the rising tide and
now we are settling back in to our watch system for the final 400 odd Nm to
Airlie.

Saturday, 17 May 2014, 1300 Hrs
25 43 S, 152 59 E Safely in Wide Bay Harbour. We crossed the bar a little after
high tide this morning. Quite a wild surf down a couple of significant waves
gave the crew and myself a bit of an adrenalin rush. Will be anchoring in a few
hours to pass through the shallows early Sunday morning

Wednesday, 14 May 2014, 0930 Hrs
26 41.2 S, 153 07.7 E, Mooloolaba Marina. So much for sunny Queensland and the
sunshine Coast! Actually its quite nice this morning but did it rain overnight.
Expecting to be underway again by Friday morning. The wind will be up a little
for the next few days so a short break will do no harm. All good with nothing
to fix just buy some non-slip in case its as bumpy as on the way here.

Tuesday, 13 May 2014, 1230 Hrs
28 18 S, 153 37 E, Just 10 Nm from Sunny Queensland, well hopefully. Had quite
a bit of rain through the night to wash the decks down. Have had good winds
since leaving Coffs however which has upped the pace a little and allowed us
to finally switch the engine off. Will probably be making a short stop at
Mooloolaba based on this afternoons updated forecast.

Monday, 12 May 2014, 1300 Hrs
Leaving Coffs Harbour. All fitted out with a new freshwater pump and a few
other electrical issues sorted out. A lovely day with sunshine and 15 Kts
of SE wind to push us north. The only thing to sort out now is what’s for
happy hour and dinner tonight.

Sunday, 11 May 2014, 1415 Hrs
30 18.2 S, 153 08.7 E, Coffs harbour Marina. Finally after pushing so much
current the whole way. All well we hope to be underway after fuel and water
etc by approximately lunchtime tomorrow

Saturday, 10 May 2014, 1230 Hrs
31 41 S, 152 52 E Approaching Camden Head. Still around 85 Nm to Coffs with
160 Nm behind us. Progress is a little slower than expected with light headwinds
(not expected until this evening) and a lot of southerly current at the moment.
Pleasant enough however as the sea and swell of the last few days have settled
down a bit.

Friday, 9 May 2014, 0930 Hrs
33 13 S. 151 49 E, approximately 10 Nm off Catherine Hill Bay. Light winds with
a fair size swell behind us. Currently under engine as expected for most of the
eg to Coffs. Settling in to our watch system and taking things easy for our
first shake down leg of the trip. All is well.

Leaving the CYCA for Coffs

Currently at the CYCA Rushcutters Bay. Provisioned with a few extra items to be stowed and acquired. Expecting to be underway this afternoon. Based on current forecasts we expect to stop for a night or two in Coffs Harbour before continuing on Sunday / Monday.
