Still anchored a week later. Phone reception unavailable. Internet crap at $500 so far in the first week, cant even update this site properly. No fuel, no supplies. Total stuff up

Wednesday, 9 March 2022, 0745 Hrs

12 05.5 S, 96 53 E. Anchored at Direction Island, Cocos Keeling Islands. Here we are, unfortunately we are under quarantine conditions meaning we are not allowed on shore. (Our crime is being on a sailboat) We have just cleared in via the Australian Federal Police and are assured that internet is available from direction Island anchorage. Currently we can not find it, possibly turned off. Once we have a forecast and sorted some electrical issues we should be good to leave again very soon. Fingers crossed. Hopefully will update once internet is available.

Tuesday, 8 March 2022, 1200 Hrs

13 03 S, 97 34 E, Getting closer. 71 Nm to Cocos. We requested last week to stop via the Cocos Keelings for the purpose of getting a detailed update of weather conditions for crossing the equator and planing our route forward. The communications on board are not able to download any more than a 3 day, and small area forecast despite considerable attempts and costs. On Sunday we were denied entry but I have no choice but to proceed for safety concerns.

Monday, 7 March 2022, 1230 Hrs

14 09 S, 98 54 E, Counting down now just 170 Nm to the Cocos Keeling’s Damn hot out here.

Sunday, 6 March 2022, 1200 Hrs

15 04 S, 100 29 E, Making reasonable speed in a light 10-15 Kts breeze. We are now less than 280 Nm SE of the Cocos Keeling Islands.

Friday, 4 March 2022, 1300 Hrs

16 23 S, 103 47 E, The wind has lightened so we now have the Parasail up (The Weapon) and are making a good 5-6 kts in a little over 10 kts of wind directly downwind. Not so much luck on submitting forms to Authorities though, the phone company is making a fortune on failed uploads and downloads.

Wednesday, 2 March 2022, 1100 Hrs

18 32 S, 106 55 E, wherever in the Indian Ocean. Been giving the Sat phn a workout trying to get info and communicate with authorities amounting to a big waste of time and money so far. Anyway moving along well in 25kt SW wind and a 3m swell.

Tuesday, 1 March 2022, 1200 Hrs

20 03 S, 108 22 E, Almost 350 Nm NW of Exmouth, have just made a call to Border Force to request permission to make a stop at the Coco’s Keeling Islands due to weather concerns. We have had a good 24 hour average of 6.8 Kts boat speed so quite happy with progress. Wondering if Thailand has changed their policy for 7 days quarantine on board on arrival as there were set to be changes made today on that issue. All is well.

Monday, 28 February 2022, 0900 Hrs

21 28 S, 110 24 E. That puts us into international waters finally. 200 Nm West of Exmouth. I would normally start selling duty free alcohol to the crew, however we have all decided to take up a facebook friends challenge of no alcohol for February 29-31. Could be a long wait!

Sunday, 27 February 2022, 1230 Hrs

22 33 S, 111 34 E, Just 3Nm till we enter the tropics. Certainly have felt the temperature rising in the last few days. We are also 115 Nm West of Point Coats so still in Australian waters. All well with bread baking and toasted bacon and eggs sandwiches for breakfast. Not much else to focus on other than the next meal when there is no news of the happenings around the world.

Saturday, 26 February 2022, 1200 Hrs

24 34 S, 112 26 E, Still on the Continental shelf (Just) around 70 Nm West of Carnarvon WA. We left anchor in Shark Bay at 1500 Hrs (Note Time Change) Currently we are in 20-25 Kts Southerly which should remain for the next 24 hrs before lightening off. All is well!

Friday, 25 February 2022, 1500 Hrs

26 02 S, 113 13 E. Anchored inside Dirk Hartog Island, WA. Pulled in here this morning to download and return some forms for the clearance agent in Phuket. Still waiting on it and getting itchy feet as the wind is keen to push us out to sea. Sorry again for the lack of updates recently but have daily been spending hours trying to get paperwork done before we are isolated from the worlds happenings. Sent almost 30 Documents, photos and certificates through and still waiting on the last one arrrghh

Next updates will be via Sat phn every other day.

Tuesday, 22 February 2022, 1200 Hrs

31 45 S, 115 13 E, 20 Nm NW of Rottnest Island. Another slow day yesterday but easy with the wind and sea following. Sorry for no update yesterday but there’s a lot of stuff to get through online before we turn left into the Indian Ocean

Monday, 21 February 2022, 1200 Hrs

33 04 S, 114 43 E 120 Nm West of Bunbury. Its great to be heading north and leaving the Southern Ocean behind us. Quite an exhilarating ride around cape Leeuwin yesterday afternoon. Today however sees a much slower day until the wind kicks back in. All is well.

Sunday, 20 February 2022, 1200 Hrs

34 36 S, 115 36 E, Now just 30 Nm South of Cape Leeuwin and making good progress in a strong SE wind sending us North. Despite the reports of how hot Perth is last night was freezing here. North sounds good. PS the “Baker” came up with a great result on his first attempt.

Saturday, 19 February 2022, 1130 Hrs

35 13 S, 118 07 E, Finally into reception. We are now 15 Nm south of Albany in a light southerly. Had the slowest average yesterday despite recording the highest boat speed yet. We drifted for a while this morning whilst waiting on the breeze to fill in. Note the time change again. We used that extra hour to break out the bread-maker and give it a try. Baker Joe’s Job is on the line or he gets the job permanently. Will let you know tomorrow.

Friday, 18 February 2022, 1230 Hrs

35 10 S, 120 05 E, Currently 100 Nm East of Albany. The last 3 days have been a bit slower than anticipated and unfortunately still no phone / internet reception as the wind keeps sending us on the long course. Anyway all still well and will hopefully give a full update tomorrow.

Wednesday, 16 February 2022, 1200 Hrs

34 18 S, 124 02 E, Around 110 Nm East of Esperance. It seems we were unable to avoid the centre of the high pressure so unfortunately burning precious fuel slowly motoring west. Hopefully will be back in internet range in the next 24 hours to get a weather update and catch up on happenings ashore.

Tuesday, 15 February 2022, 1030 Hrs

33 53 S, 126 53 E, Note the time change (UTC + 9 Hrs) Getting there. Around 200 Nm to Esperance where we should pick up an updated forecast. Just a light Southerly at the moment which should be the case for the next 24 hours or so. Making reasonable progress as the seas are calm with the underlying swell causing no issues. All doing fine on board and have settled into a daily routine which as always revolves around who is cooking what today.

Monday, 14 February 2022, 0930 Hrs

33 06 S, 128 52 E, 85 Nm South of Eucla SA Made better progress over the last 24 hours with the Gennika up for half the day before the wind and swell picked up over night. All is well

Sunday, 13 February 2022, 0930 Hrs

33 35 S, 131 50 E. The wind angle is improving so expecting a better course for the next few days towards WA.

Saturday, 12 February 2022, 1400 Hrs

34 07 S, 132 59 E, Just a sniff of internet so a quick update. The wind is dropping off so now we a giving the new “Screecher” a go (Gennika)

0800 Hrs

34 15 S, 133 36 E, 130 Nm due South of Ceduna SA. Starting to make good progress with a nice sunny morning giving us a pleasant 2 sail reach. The wind is expected to ease through the day so planning to increase sail area as the day progresses.

Friday, 11 February 2022, 2030 Hrs

34 29 S, 134 51 E, About 30 Nm west of Coffin Bay, After safely rounding Cape Catastrophe earlier today I have no plans to go to that bay. Anyway we will probably again be out of internet shortly so updates may only be every other day via satellite. All well on board with a good weather forecast

0700 Hrs

Leaving anchorage for the crossing of the Bight. I will try to update again later in the day whilst we have some internet coverage. After this evening all updates will be via the Satellite phone so will only happen every 2 days unless we require a weather update and will use that connection for a brief update. It will probably be around 7 days before regular internet is back again.

Thursday, 10 February 2022, 1900 Hrs

34 57 S, 135 59 E, Anchored in “Memory Bay” SA Early tomorrow the forecast shows the Southerly going more SE and then East. Expecting to leave early in the morning for the WA coast.

1315 Hrs

That’s it we have left the country! Checked out with Border Force a short time ago and are now heading for the Southern ocean. Not planning on going too far today into a Southerly but intending to anchor until daylight Friday in “Memory Cove” Friday’s weather should see more easterlies and a pretty much good run to the WA coast for the next week.
