35 30 S, 138 14.5 E, Pen A19 St Vincent Marina, Wirrina Cove SA. We are Here!

Wednesday, 22 October 2014, 1900 Hrs

35 50 S, 138 18 E, Just entering “Backstairs Passage” Yes that’s what it’s called. Just 30 Nm to go so expect t arrive at Wirrina Cove by midnight. Only just in reception range now since last night. Will update after arrival.

Tuesday, 21 October 2014, 1830 Hrs

37 43 S, 140 07 E, 15 Nm South of Beachport. Sorry for the late update, was expecting to earlier when we came into range however soon after had a problem with the self steering and have been busy ever since. The conditions are again lighter than forecast but sailing has been good and am still expecting an ETA of late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Monday, 20 October 2014, 1500 Hrs

38 42 S, 143 05 E, Approaching Port Campbell VIC, Back in reception and off the Great ocean road and 12 Apostles. A tiring long night as we sailed through the SW winds of up to 30 Kts as forecast. The wind has now gone SE- E at 20 Kts so making good progress. Probable ETA is Thursday at this stage but too early to be sure however.

Sunday, 19 October 2014, 0900 Hrs

39 07 S, 146 29 E, 5 Nm East of Wilsons Prom. A lot slower with lower wind yesterday than expected. Are now making slow headway and hoping to be around the Prom before a SW change arrives probably at lunchtime. Will possibly not be updating again for 12 – 24 hrs due to expected loss of reception.

Saturday, 18 October 2014 1230 Hrs

38 04 S, 148 19 E, The first oil rig “Tuna” lies 8 Nm to our SE. Currently the conditions are still so under engine. Unfortunately the fuel is still blocking the primary first filter so every few hours we are cleaning this filter. Conditions since leaving till early this morning has been quite bumpy so this is probably keeping any sediment in the tank stirred up. Anyway the wind is gradually beginning to build so expect a bit of sailing this afternoon.

PS Just replayed “Conversations” from ABC and Richard Fidler, well worth a listen, especially for those of us that know David Pescud

Friday, 17 October 2014, 0730 Hrs

Currently waiting at the Eden Jetty for the fuel supplier to commence work. The ugly weather has finally moved on and we should have favourable winds (apart from a small change Sunday) for the rest of the trip to Adelaide. Should be able to update fairly regularly but could be some patches of poor reception over the next 3 days.

Monday, 13 October 2014, 1300 Hrs

We have an engine again! A change of the primary fuel filters and a dose of fuel treatment and all seems to be running fine. Hopefully the current bad weather will blow though in a day or two and we will be back underway again. Next update when underway.

Sunday, 12 October 2014, 1200 Hrs

37 04 S, 149 54 E, Moored again in Eden. How plans can changed. The wind dropped right out yesterday afternoon and the engine seems it may not like dirty fuel (my guess at this stage) Anyway drifted in a light breeze here overnight so will now need to wait for tomorrow mornings front and wind following to blow through for a few days. Will at least give us time to sort out the fuel filters etc but will miss the small weather window through the Strait we were originally after.

Saturday, 11 October 2014, 1200 Hrs

35 56 S, 150 35 E, Around 20 Nm offshore of Moruya NSW, light winds since early this morning so under engine currently. There is around 75 Nm to Eden so will be waiting on this afternoons updated forecast to determine where to wait out the SW change. All is well.

Friday, 10 October 2014, 1300 Hrs

Leaving CYCA for Eden first stop. Its seems the owners, Peter and Cheryl are very jealous not to be on board for this trip! You can tell their experience cruising with some ingenious little devices set up for what can be annoying little nusances like paper towels unwinding from dispensers as below!
